What is a molecular tumor board?

A molecular tumor board is a dedicated review in which medical oncology, pathology, genetics and bioinformatics experts interpret your genomic test results together.

The aim is to distinguish, among the many variants listed in a report, those that are clinically meaningful and can actually guide treatment.

When does it come into play?

  • When standard treatment options are exhausted or have not produced a response
  • When comprehensive genomic testing (large panel / whole exome) has been performed
  • In rare tumors and cancers of unknown primary
  • When eligibility for targeted therapy or immunotherapy is being explored
  • When hereditary cancer risk is suspected

Files requested

  • The complete genomic / molecular test report, including the variant list
  • Pathology report and, if possible, tumor block details
  • Current imaging reports
  • A summary of treatments received and responses observed

Board output

  • Prioritization of variants with clinical significance
  • Approved targeted therapy options, if any
  • Off-label options presented with their level of evidence
  • Clinical trial recommendations matching the molecular profile
